The Jargon File

Diff

1) A list of changes between two copies of a file.  Mostly used by programmers, but also of more general use if somebody knows how to use them.

For example, the "view revisions" link on a wiki is actually a diff.

2) More rarely, when contacted by somebody you haven't spoken to for a long time.  "Haven't spoken to you for ages, what's the diff?".
