Drop In

1)  Spurious lines appearing as you type in a terminal, generally caused by line noise.  

2) A replacement piece of software that "just works" when installed instead of it's alternative.  For example, Percona and MariaDB are both drop in replacements for MySQL.  That is, you can remove MySQL, and install either of these as seamlessly as updating from one version of MySQL to another.
