The Jargon File

A normal person.  IE, a technologically illiterate person who can start their browser and visit a website, but not much else.

Contrary to popular belief, this term is not derogatory, or indeed, a value judgement in any way.  It is merely descriptive and only descriptive of their ability relating to tech.  A normal will often provide better bug reports, for example, than the self-proclaimed "moderately technically competent".  A normal could potentially become a geek, or even a hacker, they just have no interest in doing so.

For derogatory descriptions of people, see hipster, twat, luser, thrush, whinger, and gobshite.
