The Jargon File

Open Source

Whereas commercial software is limited by the bottom line, and specifications are written by committee, and everything gets in the way, open source ostensibly offers code that anybody can use, anybody can read, anybody can modifiy, and anybody can alter.

In reality, open source projects are created when a developer sees another man's penis in the changing room, and realises his isn't very big, but he can't afford a Ferrari.  The limitations placed on commerical software by money are replaced with calculating, manipulative backstabbing from geeks, desperate to extend their penis and make random strangers love them.  A cesspit of bile and tyranny.
